Smith Bros offers a variety of choices when designing your new cabinets. There are a variety of wood selections, door styles, and finishes available to suit your individual style. When combined with the finishing touches of detailed moldings, decorative hardware, glass inserts, and accent lighting you will soon be enjoying the cabinets of your dreams.
Alder Select is a moderately soft wood that takes dark stain well and is often used as a substitute for cherry. It has a smooth straight grain and can be stained to take on reddish brown to pale yellow tones.
Knotty Alder is often chosen for its rich rustic look with its unique open knots. The stain will be absorbed differently in the various knots drawing attention to the beautiful and unique character of the wood. ···to top of page
Red Oak Select has a prominent open grain pattern with a wide color range. Depending on the stain chosen, the characteristics of the color can take on reddish, light gold, or golden brown tones. The stain will be absorbed at different intensities on the wood causing the grain patterns to emerge. The grain patterns may range from a tight knit pattern to an open sweeping arch.
Maple Select has a smooth even texture with a fine grain pattern. This makes maple one of the more uniform of the hardwoods available. It can be stained various shades. However, it is usually chosen for its ability to be stained a light color. With very little grain pattern, the variation in the wood pieces is minimal. Maple is a heavy, durable wood.
Beech Select is a medium density hardwood. Beech has a moderate straight grain pattern with gray flecks and light mineral streaking. This wood has a strong density and can be stained to reflect a medium brown to reddish brown tone. ···to top of page
Paint Grade wood is a less expensive hardwood. This makes it an ideal choice for cabinets that will be painted. When painting cabinets made of poplar wood choose a high gloss finish to show off the details in the cabinet.
MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) is used on the construction of cabinets, drawers, and shelves. This is a durable wood used for its strength.
RTF (Rigid Thermal Foil) is a unique system of "shrink wrapping" doors and drawers. RTF doors and drawers are available in all the same styles as hardwood doors. However, RTF doors are more durable than hardwood, won't fade, and are easily wiped clean with just soap and water. This long lasting product is available in three shades of white and is a perfect complement to painted cabinets. ···to top of page
There are hundreds of door styles available in the various wood species. These doors can be stained to match the chosen cabinet stain. Doors and drawers constructed of paint grade poplar can be painted to match the cabinets. Also doors and drawers may be constructed of RTF (Rigid Thermal Fiberboard) material and are available in three shades: white, almond and off-white. The cabinets can be painted to match. You may also choose to disguise your appliances, refrigerators, dishwashers and more, with door panels to match (available for most new appliances). The variety of available hardware choices are endless. In construction of kitchen cabinets, full extension drawer guides may be used to provide full access to the drawers. These full extension guides may also be used for custom rollouts that can be added to your base cabinets for ease of access to the entire cabinet. Lazy Susans are available for use in corner base cabinets. This space saving hardware ensures no cabinet space will be wasted. There are many styles of trash and recycle bins available that can be hidden inside a base cabinet. Euro style hidden hinges are used for doors to create an uninterrupted, seamless look. ···to top of page
